A long time ago, it was quite a hassle to transfer files to or from a mobile phone. You either had to connect to your PC with a cable or use the very unreliable Bluetooth file transfer. The dftpd server made it possible to run an FTP server on Symbian devices, to which you could connect with any FTP client program.
